Taking into account the responsibilities, the long hours and relatively low wages, it is surprising that nobody wants to become a registered nurse - not to mention the education spending. Fortunately, there are people who are dedicated enough to appreciate the fact that the benefits associated with health care careers are not necessarily monetary, but chooses to serve for the good of society.

The bad news in choosing a health care career is that because the strangulation of big pharmaceutical companies and private companies, for-profit insurers have in what goes through a health care system in the U.S. . UU. and their interest in minimizing and externalizing costs and maximizing the internalization of profits at the expense of public health, traditional nursing schools have become very difficult to get into - and quite expensive to attend - even though there is a severe shortage of licensed practical nurses in the U.S.

The good news is that nursing schools online offer an alternative that is more accessible and cheaper. Although there are clinical and laboratory all components of nurse training programs to be completed in a real world installations, the most basic course work can be completed in your home via the Internet.

These courses include Introduction to Professional Nursing, Nursing Management, Health policy issues, nursing administration, health and disease management, research methods, nursing theory, and much more. Many nursing schools online have no residence requirement whatsoever. In addition, some of these courses are self-paced, allowing the student to deal with other work and family responsibilities during their training of nurses.

At this point, you may be thinking that this is fine, but what about the demands of laboratory work and clinical experience? You are correct if you think that is not going to school online allow students to complete this portion of nursing degrees online through the Internet. What most schools do is arrange for the student to meet clinical requirements to a medical center near his place of residence, once the basic course has been completed.

Currently, online nursing programs offered through public universities cost between $ 110 and $ 170 per credit hour, depending on the school’s academic calendar, this could be anywhere from 60 to 90 credits. As an online student, generally will not be charged out-of-state tuition and fees, however.

One way of reducing costs is more to consider taking credit for key consideration. Most nursing programs require that the candidate has taken in the course of basic biology, chemistry and mathematics; exam College Program (CLEP) allows students to earn credits in such subjects 10% of what would cost to take the full course. If you have experience and / or the knowledge and skills in these areas, CLEP tests are definitely worth considering.
