Associate Degree Nursing Schools

Nurses are indispensable when aiding doctors in surgeries or to check up on patients in hospitals. To be a nursing sister at the ward, you need to have an associate degree from reputable nursing schools. There are some scholarships that offer you to study nursing in Australia like Colombo Plan Scholarship. When you have such qualifications, then you can really practice nursing, giving health care to patients in the wards of hospitals.

Various Disciplines

In nursing, there are various disciplines that you can specialize in like midwifery, accident and emergency care, pediatrics, gerontology, etc. In the first year, you learn about general nursing care and the human body. Subsequently you will study more in depth and specialize to various disciplines. You will also learn how to give injections to patients and how to set up drips by inserting the needle through the wrist. Nursing is a rewarding career if not the most worthwhile vocation to be in. It need not be a dirty job to clean up patients when they clear their bowels, but with time, you will get used to it as someone has to do the job.

Different Shifts

Nurses can also be well paid for rich clients inflicted with illness like Alzheimer’s Disease and work in two shifts – - day time shift and night time shift. Such patients need round the clock nursing care to bath, feed, clean, carry, and to shift sleeping positions on the bed at night. Nurses are basically assistants to doctors and they can raise an alarm if they sense something is wrong and needs urgent attention. Some nurses also suggest what type of food is beneficial to the patients and full of required nutrients. Nurses that work in night shifts are naturally paid more than those working in day shift. Even in the hospitals, this is also the standard practice.

Rewarding Job

Associate degree nursing schools can produce graduates who are competent, caring, patient and skillful. Some nurses are so devoted to their jobs and enjoyed it so much that they decided to upgrade to become a medical officer after saving up and going through medical college. Due to their extensive experience in the ward, they are naturally more knowledgeable and can foresee the problems in caring for a patient in the hospital. There are also cases of top students choosing to study nursing in associate degree nursing schools. They will make better nurses who are most of all, patient, kind and understanding when doing their rounds in the wards. They can render health services to utmost professionalism.

Not for Everyone

Nursing is one job that is not for every Tom, Dick or Harry. Not everyone can withstand the mundane tasks of cleaning up a patient after clearing his bowels or to bathe him or her on a daily basis. You also need to be gentle when handling patients and changing of soiled bed sheets or adult pampas. That is why in some countries like the Middle East, they are willing to pay top US dollars to hire nurses to work there. For many nurses, this is like a gold mine or striking lottery. Therefore, more people are registering in associate degree nursing schools to study the four year course to become nursing sisters and to aid doctors in the hospitals.
